Bright lights, big city

I’ve had a fantastic day in Sydney checking out the various light shows which ended in a wonderful boat cruise

Can’t complain with this breakfast view!

Exciting to see the whole city getting excited for Vivid too!

And not a bad second day either!!

The guys over at Canon were particularly impressive with out they were engaging with customers throughout the lights show without actually selling any cameras but just letting you use them and the rest of their products. Very impressed!

Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and it’s back to reality for me

Achieving dreams

So around this time last year I was booking my flights to Australia and spending lots of time (and money-!!) booking my Christmas travels. During this time it was the Vivid Festival in Sydney and watching from afar (through the wonders of Instagram) made it seem like a magical dream. I knew then that I just had to make it to Sydney the following year to see it with my own eyes.

Fast forward a year and here I am. As you know I’m never one to say no to a dream, no matter what it takes I will pull out all the stops to achieve what I’ve set my mind on.

My 9 day cleanse would have to continue on the road, society commitments would have to be put on hold and work would just have to cope without me. I had another adventure waiting!

Touchdown in Sydney on Friday night and straight to bed unfortunately due to a delayed flight but I’ll be ready to start exploring tomorrow!

Rival cities

Through out my time here in Australia I have been told many times about the rivalry between Sydney and Melbourne for the top city spot, also how Australians often prefer one or the other but don’t usually like both. I’ve always wondered why many Australians (and I’m not saying all here) see it as an either or… Thinking that maybe once I get to Sydney I would understand a bit more (having loved every little thing about my quirky little Melbourne so far) but unfortunately I am still non the wiser!!

I can see the huge contrasts between Melbourne and Sydney but that doesn’t mean I love either of them any less! Both remind me of Manchester in their own ways and again both are completely different in their own ways.

Today has been totally relaxed with some time at the cinema and just wondering around, sitting down whenever I feel like it to admire the city – which I must say has been a luxury after another Topdeck trip that was always on a tight schedule. I’m also very impressed with how functional the city still is on New Year’s Day (I swear England just shuts down for it?!)

I sat for a while at darling harbour and gazed into the distance (excuse the dodgy panoramic shot)

And am now sat on Pitt street listening to a very talented saxophonist…

Tomorrow I’m leaving for the next adventure… New Zealand! But thankfully it won’t be too long until I’m back in Sydney

New Year’s Eve

No New Years resolutions for me this year as I really don’t think there is anything I would want to change about my life, my achievements and adventures or the people I am lucky enough to surround myself with.

New Years in Sydney is a stressful one I’ll admit to that! I spent most of the day annoyed at the pathetic excuse of security at our viewpoint, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, and the other half fighting old ladies who think it’s okay to push in a queue – they clearly weren’t English!

But the minute the fireworks began every little other thought simply left my head. All I could think was how lucky I was to actually be here, in Sydney, for New Year’s Eve.
